Trailer Fever: Kicking in!

Kicking in another batch of trailers ayma start with a very cute but heartwarming punch!

1) Cutie and the Boxer

I find this endearing. I know it’s like documentary but I find it quirky, cute and refreshing.

Status: I’ll be waiting to watch this thing! 🙂

2) Me, You and Everyone we know

I remember reading the synopsis and hearing it was good movie. To be honest the trailer did not give me the “umph” i was looking for. Yet, there a lot of movies who have exciting trailers but a massive disappointment and vise versa.

Status: I am going to give it a chance

3) A Touch of Sin

Something caught me in this intense yet simple trailer. It doesn’t usually you give this action packed kind of baaaang in a thriller or drama. But it is subtle, gradual and effective just like a snake’s attack. I am actually looking forward to this if I get hold of it!

Status: Hell ya! This will be one hell of a ride.

4) Behind the Candelabra

I didn’t think this would be interesting but by golly, I think I am all aboard for this one. I thought it would be like the usual biopic of a famous celebrity which I find most of them very boring and overly dramatic (as a trailer. But it does tend to be a bit of a bore in film as well.) Yet this one is entertaining. It not only made me entertain but feel for the characters as well.

Status: I am all aboard!

5) The one I love

I actually read about this a long time ago when I think it just was shown to some festivals. And oh booooy did I want to see the trailer. Unfortunately at that time it wasn’t available. Now that I’ve seen the it, it didn’t really say anything about the story. BUUUUT that’s a good thing! It made me feel more curious.

Status: I WANT TO WATCH THIS!

6) God Help the Girl

Ohhhhh! So beautiful!!! I like this quirky, fresh, saturated and just sun kiss cute kind of story! I don’t know how to explain this kind of film but I don’t know why, it’s very attractive. It’s not the usual mainstream rom-com. Can I just say a ‘quirky’ rom-com genre? Can I?

Status: Definitely in the look out!

7) The Skeleton Twins

AHHHHHH!!!! Kristen Wiig!!! Bill Hader!!! AHHHHH!!! Can I just keep yelling! Gosh! I love these two in SNL. They are such great comedians and man can they act in drama. What I love about them is that they can insert comedy juices in one hot meal of a drama! The story seem realistic and not the usual mainstream comedy or drama. It has the right amount. They perfectly placed them equally together! Usually in these kinds of movie, ‘the dramedy’ genre, it tends to get boring for me. But they just made it right! Well done!

Can I scream again?

Status: As I said, can I scream again? OF COURSE I’M GOING TO WATCH THIS!

8) Laggies

Then let’s go to a more ‘chill pill’. Some kind of coming of age kind of story but for young adults or mid 20’s. It actually looks interesting. And cannot believe Keira Knightley is doing an American Accent! 🙂 hehe She is actually pretty good and sounds really different.

This movie seems like those chilling in my pool kind of thing in a sunny afternoon. I am no sun loving person but man with this movie just made me relax and take a sip on my ice cold four seasons juice with the small umbrella!

Status: Sure!

9) The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby

I’ve got to admit I clicked this trailer because of James McAvoy. But who wouldn’t! Great amazing actor and a bonus feature- his looks! 😀 Gaaaahhhhh!!! Why are you freaking talented! Once I pressed play it seemed like the sappy romantic ‘serious’ kind of story. I am not so sure to watch it. Not only does it include McAvoy but Jessica Chastain who I saw in ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ and boooy was she was incredible in that film! Not to mention that movie was intense and spell bounding. Despite my love for McAvoy, I am not so sure with the story and how the trailer paced the story. I don’t want to be bias here… it’s 50/50.

Status: Let’s see. Will watch with a neutral feelings. Then judge at the end of the movie.

10) St. Vincent

And now let’s go to a more light beat kind of movie! 😀 Kinda reminds me of ‘About a Boy’ (Not the remake! The movie one!

Status: Sure why not! Let’s have a light hearted comedy!

Trailer Fever: It’s back!!!

Got some new batch of trailers to share you guys! And boooooy do they seem promising! 🙂 Cannot wait to get a chance to watch them! Hope you like them too and join me in the bandwagon! 🙂

1) What we do in the Shadows

Now, I am not a fan of the vampire story thing ever since Twilight blew off into crazy proportions. However, this film seems very promising! Quite quirky, and refreshing take on the undead genre with a twist! 🙂

Status: I cannot wait to laugh my brains out! 😀

2) What Maisie Knew

I actually had the chance to see that it was indeed in stores and was still thinking if I should watch it but stupid as I was, I ignored it! Woooow! But Fate had other plans. Watched the trailer and I was completely captivated by it! 🙂

Status: Yes!

3) Afternoon Delight

Something I am not usually used to watching but is slowly opening the door to it. It actually has a hidden heart to it. One of the reason why I ever so slowly open to these kinds of topic is because there are some story to tell that are quite in a disguise or usually misunderstood. Seeing the trailer it seems heartwarming.

Status: Uhuh!

4) The King’s of Summer

I must confess, I’ve watched this! I just couldn’t help but share this trailer in the hopes to convince you to watch it! 🙂 It is a light but lovely movie! In some ways, it reminds you of the old kind of coming of age move with a modern take on it. So please do catch it! 🙂

Status: So cuuuute and funny! So please so watch! 🙂

5) Calvary

I saw the synopsis and I fell in love with it! Yet, seeing the trailer…I got mix feelings for it. Though I am putting all my hopes in the synopsis and will try to get hold of it and see it before the final verdict.

Status: Let’s see. Keeping the fingers crossed.

6) In your Eyes

One of the most exciting and refreshing trailers I’ve seen so far!!! I cannot wait to watch this! It is not the usual romantic comedy or romantic drama you see everyday! One of those rare gems I might say! 😛 Unless it turns really bad when I see it. That is why I am trying to neutralize my excitement so I don’t get my hopes too up. (Composure sustained!)

Status: OF COURSE HELL YAAAAA!!!! 😀

7) Hateship Loveship

I’ll be honest, when I saw the synopsis it did some boring. When I gave it a try and pressed the play button I did not like the first few couple of minutes. But it grows on you. and something magical happen. The story I thought will happen changed its due course and its mood. It became more raw, realistic and heartwarming. I never doubted Kristen Wiig because she can do lots of different personality and she wings it really great. This I am actually very curious. Let’s see where this will take me! 🙂

Status: Sure, why not?

8) What If

A mainstream romantic comedy I never thought I’d like and then BAAAAM! It actually works! 🙂 I don’t know if its Zoe Kazan, but maaaan! Most of her projects she touches turns to gold for me. 🙂 I remember watching Ruby Sparks and just feel in love with her work and writing! 🙂

Status: Yup! Yup! Yup!

9) Fill the Void

If your into a simple chicken soup, I think this is for you. It may seem ordinary to look at it but after gradually devouring it it gives a warm fuzzy feeling. This film, seemed to capture that!

Status: Let me get hold of that chicken soup! 🙂

10) The Pretty One

Yes! I’m sorry but I just need to put it, another Zoe Kazan project!!! GAAAAHHH!!! I cannot take it! 🙂 I mean c’mon, be the judge of it! 🙂 Its quirky, interesting, engaging, refreshing, lovable…what more can I say?

Status: Count me in…DEFINITELY! 😀

TV series Thoughts- Some Pondering

I’ve always adored television. I think most of my childhood were filled with it- cartoons, Anime, telenovela, variety shows to weekend movies. So, it is no question when I decided to share my thoughts to some shows I am currently or previously watched.  As much as I was thrilled to start typing I had a dilemma of  which tv series I shall cover first.

You see, in the past few years, I’ve watched countless of series and I have too many feels in each one of them. Don’t quite know how to put it into words. From the beloved Friends, to American Horror Story: Coven, to the hilarious and yet underated Arrested Development. Even until to the huge British sensations like Doctor Who and Sherlock.

Here’s the thing, let me make it clear, I don’t usually fall for the type who goes with the flow as you can see on my film thoughts. I don’t just share my thoughts or in technical terms ‘review’ movies that are quite mainstream. I have a process, a principle that I won’t just get into the hype or craze even if it is critically acclaimed or gotten few prestigious awards. Because frankly I’ve been there. In some ways I’ve started like that and there is nothing wrong with that. My concern lies on some observations that some people would keep on doing it because of the trend (…maybe). Unless you know, it finally is their taste.

Before anything, I try to see if it is interesting in my taste. (AND, I try to let the buzz or hype to dwindle so I won’t be persuaded by it. Try to watch them maybe after few weeks the series ends. Actually it is quite lovely because if I do like the series, I can just have a marathon and not partake on the waiting once you finish one episode. ) Then, I look for their promo or a little synopsis and yes…I still check once in a while if they got a great review or if it was well received. However, that criteria only falls back to 5% of my process and will be transparently yet hidden in my brain. Because the number one priority here were DID I THINK IT WAS INTERESTING? DID IT FIT INTO MY LIKING?

Yes, occasionally you’d see some mainstream or popular shows I would maybe share my thoughts on BUT it is because it did fit into my liking.

Now back to my current dilemma. So, what TV series should I start with this category: TV THOUGHTS? Well I’ve decided. 🙂 But, I’d rather keep the suspense. So stay tuned!

Here are some shows I am currently watching or watched that got my interest. You might even find I’d write all about them. (Just hope that I get to find time to do them all.) Well it’s no brainer I would but, still bare with the sluggish post. And of course, you might have an inkling which of these babies would be my first post for the said category 🙂

P.S.

Just to give you a little heads up these babies I’ve posted are just the tip of the ice berg of tv series I love and watch. So, do come aboard and wait patiently for them. Who knows, I might prompt you to watch them your selves! 🙂

Film Thoughts: Gravity

Gravity_Poster

This movie got a massive hype when it was in theaters and to think when the trailer came out no one in my social media communities, commercials, and even people surrounding in my daily life talked about it. (Unless you know, I hang around a few amount of people or that they really are not into movies, or I am just such a trailer eager kind of person.) Nonetheless, it made me think of how moviegoers are composed of. Just boggles my mind how some people watch a film because they are going with the flow and it is the trend.

AAAANNNYWAAAAY! That’s for another time. Maybe I’d discuss it in another blog entry. Just crossed my mind as I was about to talk about today’s FILM THOUGHTS. Drum roll please…GARAAAAAHHHVITYYYYY!!!

I was actually watching this movie while I was taking a break from working. I made a mental note to stop after 30 minutes because I needed to get back to work and finish what needs to be done. Yet I just could not stop myself. My eyes were completely glued on my monitor.

Nevertheless, I had a satisfactory look on my face after finishing the film. It was quite interesting how things turned out. My expectation were both unmeet and surpassed.

I guess, I got into the hype quite a bit. I actually watched the trailer before it got the huge hype. I found it quite interesting compelling though I didn’t know why. In some ways, watching the trailer,  not only are you in that kind of suspense thrill kind of ride, but it made me expect something and so I was captivated by it.

Yet after watching the film, I realized the trailer gave the story up. It was about how a lone astronaut survive with a few sources on space. PERIOD. Simple right?

What made this film extraordinary was it used all the magic beans the film industry had. Great acting , direction, cinematography, editing, sound editing and even the most recent magic bean- CGI. (It may not have the greatest plot twisting story but they used all the other magic technique to deliver this film)

Now, I am actually proud of this film because they didn’t usually overused one magic bean than the other. Like some action films nowadays overkilled the used of magic bean CGI than the others. They used all of them equally.

Many people were praising Sandra Bullock’s performance to the point even the Academy Awards recognized it and nominated her. I even saw some reviews and post that her acting saved the movie. Actually, in my point of view, the story or rather the suspense and thrill of being alone, scared and everything weren’t all Bullock’s weight.

gravity

She did a brilliant job in acting as what she is told to do. This is your character play that. BAAAM! She did! Which I am actually not taking it in a offensive side. She did a splendid job but I felt she wasn’t given a complex character. Compared to Cate Blanchett in Blue Jasmine, she made the character so three dimensional, so real, so flawed and beautiful at the same time. I am not so sure if she interpreted it that way, or that Woody Allen wrote it tremendously. Nonetheless, I felt the realism and complexity of it all.

Bullock did not do it all on her own. If you watch it closely, the cuts, the sound and shots brought a great deal to it all. With her acting and all those magic beans in place they made a spectacular film, which to be honest you don’t see very often.

Usually, when you watch a suspense or thriller kind of movies, they would use one magic bean the most and the rest ummm…not so much.

Like 1 huge magic bean called acting then the rest tiny bits. Or, 1 huge magic bean called sound then the rest tiny bits.

This movie in particular not only did we hear Bullock’s pants and scream the sound (and even it’s editing) helped you to feel what she felt. Together with the cuts and shots the editing did, it made you even helpless and lost.

I actually adored one scene. Or better yet I noticed whenever a suspenseful scene is coming up they build it up in the most fascinating thing ever. So you see, Bullock’s expression together with some song. And when she realizes that she cannot work the ship so she can come home the song becomes faster. And together with some cuts and interesting shots, you as a viewer tense up. Then as the song, shots and cuts builds up BAAAAM! One silent long shot. And there in the center of it all, you see Bullock, throwing a tantrum. You see her shouting and kicking over her frustration but you don’t hear it because not only is it a long shot but the camera is right outside the ship…out there in space…where no one can hear you. That very shot tells all about the frustration, the anger, the emotions that Bullock projects and how a human feels in that dire hopelessness. And that realization, you are alone, no one will hear and save you. You are not only stranded in this dreadful silent place called-space but you are that close to getting home and everything just won’t work out.

Don’t you think that was an amazing scene? I thought it was brilliant! 🙂

I also liked the scene when Bullock’s character Dr. Ryan Strong was spinning and just floating around. You can hear her voice just at a lost and panting. Yes, you see her wiggling about trying to do something to the point you see her panicing but WHO WOULDN’T right? (so there is your acting) but the camera not only let’s you see her wiggling and panic-ing it even let’s you see in her point of view. From seeing her floating about in a blank scary space alone to gradually going inside the suit and seeing it in her point of view. Now, not only do you see it in her POV literally but you hear her oxygen decreasing. The camera did not only stay there for a quick look for you to see in her POV but it stayed long enough to you as audience to understand in her shoes what’s going on…what’s she is seeing, what she is experiencing. For you to feel the tension.

What I also liked about this movie, was after that panic and wiggling scene we see Bullock and Clooney’s character reunited. Then have themselves go to the nearby ships to get some help. You are then experiencing a slowness. Some kind of rest. As viewers yes, it is good as a visual storyteller to let your audience rest for a while but on this movie the rest is not only the reason. They wanted you to see the space. How space see our planet earth. How odd and fascinating it is to be both scared and amazed when you are in Space. They showed the two sides of life.

Yes, space is definitely silent. It’s a place that is terrifying because no one will ever hear you yet it is most tranquil place. You’d just get used to its silence and be lost in your deep thoughts. How terrifying and beautiful is it not?

For a visual storyteller, he or she needs to not only make an amazing story but to deliver it across in bull’s eye. Some movies can stand to have a story simple on its own and rely on others less, some need all the CGI they can muster to at least have billions of people watch a mediocre kind of story others might have a simple story to tell yet use everything effectively. One great example is Gravity.
